Factors that affect sub-ohm vaping

Add to compare

One of the popular choices amongst vape users is sub-ohm vaping. Sub-ohm vaping can be described as vaping on a coil built with a measured resistance of anything lower than 1 ohm. When you vape at sub-ohm, the levels display a reading of anywhere between 0.01 to 0.99 ohms.

Below are some of the factors that affect sub-ohm vaping

Coil resistance

Coil resistance is one of the key, if not the greatest, roles in the development of true sub-ohm vapor. It is important to note that there are many different materials nowadays used to create coils. The materials used to create coils include kanthal, stainless steel, nichrome, nickel, and titanium. Each of these metals has its value for resistance. It is necessary to know if the exact resistance of your spools is correct.

To determine the resistance of a coil the thickness or gauge of the coiled wire and the length plays a major role. To give you a rough idea, thicker/lower gauged wires have a much lower resistance compared to thinner/higher gauged ones. Again, when it comes to coil length, using a longer wire to produce a longer coil or a coil with more “wraps” will lead to a higher resistance coil. Battery

The safety of your battery is very important when we talk about sub-ohm vaping. All batteries are rated at a specific resistance level. Some early sub-ohm vapers encountered battery explosions and overheating because they were not careful to measure the resistance they were working with or they were ignorant about it.

Using what we call “power formula” and Ohm’s law, you can now do the math yourself and ensure that you are working within the limits of your equipment to prevent dangerous accidents. Again it’s important to note that atomizers and cartomizers are sold with pre-set resistance ratings.

In case you are unsure how the components will impact your vaping, you can check the numbers for yourself by plugin into an Ohm’s law calculator and see the results. Ohm’s law is based around a fraction, the impact of changing resistance is not necessarily linear or positively correlated. Less resistance creates a higher output instead of the other way around. And this is the reason why sub-ohm vaping has become so popular.

Wattage

With all the technological advancement and reliable regulated mods, it’s now possible to increase the voltage supplied by batteries. Regardless of the resistance of your coils, it is possible to deliver more wattage or current to it. You’re not limited to building low resistance coils for an intense vaping experience.

Each coil depending on its resistance and how it’s built can only take a specific number of watts. After this, the coil gets too hot. It will start burning your e-liquid as well as the wicking material. Low resistance or sub-ohm coils are still preferred in this regard. They can spread heat more and can deliver a higher number of watts before the coil gets too hot to vape.
